KENNESAW, Ga. – Kennesaw State junior catcher
Max Pentecost continues to reel in the accolades, this time being named to the Sporting News All-America Preseason Team as well as earning a spot on the USA Baseball Golden Spikes Award watch list, both were released on Friday morning.
Â
Pentecost, the highly touted catcher, was also named to the Baseball America All-American Team just one week ago as well as the Perfect Game Collegiate Summer Player of the Year, Cape Cod League Player of the Year as well as an All-Atlantic Sun Conference Second Team member.
Â
The Golden Spikes Award will name the top amateur baseball player in the country on July 17. Sponsored by Major League Baseball, the Golden Spikes Award will be presented in 2014 for the 37th time.
Â
The watch list features 60 of the nation's top amateur players, and will be a "rolling" list until May 27 -- when the Golden Spikes Award semifinalists are announced -- ensuring that athletes can play themselves into consideration for the award throughout the collegiate and high school seasons.
Â
The catcher adds to his preseason awards after already being named to the All-A-Sun Preseason team just two weeks ago after a 2013 campaign that saw the catcher hit .302 with a team high 14 doubles and three homeruns.
Â
The plethora of awards come after a stellar summer for the Winder, Ga. native as he put together a batting average of .347 with 29 RBI and six home runs for the Bourne Braves.
Â
Pentecost becomes the second KSU All-American after shortstop
Kal Simmons was named a Freshman All-American last season.
Kennesaw State will open the 2014 campaign with a three-game series against Middle Tennessee State at home on Feb. 14-16.
