OFFICIAL RELEASE
KENNESAW, Ga. – Kennesaw State junior catcher
Max Pentecost has been named to Baseball America's Preseason Second Team All-American list, it was announced on Monday morning, as Pentecost continues to bring in accolades heading into the 2014 season.
Pentecost, who was also named the Perfect Game Collegiate Summer Player of the Year, Cape Cod League Player of the Year as well as an All-Atlantic Sun Conference Second Team member, becomes the first Preseason All-American for KSU.
"This is an outstanding achievement for Max," said Kennesaw State head coach
Mike Sansing. "It brings a lot of deserved recognition to him as well as our program. He had such a great postseason for us last year and a terrific summer and he's carried that over into the spring and hopefully it continues into the season for us."
The catcher adds to his preseason awards after already being named to the All-A-Sun Preseason team just one week ago after a 2013 campaign that saw the catcher hit .302 with a team high 14 doubles and three homeruns.
The award comes after a stellar summer for the Winder, Ga. native as he put together a batting average of .347 with 29 RBI and six home runs for the Bourne Braves.
Pentecost becomes the second KSU All-American after shortstop
Kal Simmons was named a Freshman All-American last season.
Kennesaw State will open the 2014 campaign with a three-game series against Middle Tennessee State at home on Feb. 14-16.
