KENNESAW, Ga. – The Kennesaw State duo of
Andre Dorsey and
Jalil Braxton have won the Atlantic Sun Men's Indoor Track and Field weekly awards, and
Hannah Wood won the Women's Track Performer of the Week, accounced on Wednesday, February 5 by the league office.
Braxton won the 400-meter dash in a field of 82 competitors at the Hilton Garden Invitational at the JDL Fast Track with a program record time of 48.79 in his first collegiate meet. His converted time of 48.03 ranks first in the A-Sun and 76th nationally.
"Jalil demonstrated his talent this weekend, running his first ever college race and winning the competition of 82 competitors as well as setting the school record," Director of Track and Field
Andy Eggerth said. "Jalil can undoubtedly be running at the NCAA Championships if he applies himself. He also just turned 18, so it's expected that he'll be competing at the US Junior championships, and it's very possible for him to be competing at the World Junior Championships this summer!"
Andre Dorsey and Lipscomb's Gemikal Prude shared the A-Sun Field Athlete of the Week honors after both jumped to a height of 2.20 meters in the high jump, which ranks fifth in the nation. Dorsey added a first-place finish in the triple jump with a distance of 15.71m, which is 14th in the nation.
"Andre just continues to do his thing," Eggerth commented. "Leading the A-Sun in the LJ, TJ, and HJ! He is the only jumper in the nation to be ranked top 25 in all three events. We are excited for Andre to reap the rewards of the work he puts in, and we're looking for him to move up the national rankings this weekend to secure his spot in the National Championships."
Wood finished second in the 200-meter dash at the Hilton Garden Invitational with a program record time of 24.50, while claiming sixth-place in the 60-meter dash after setting a personal record time of 7.55
"I'm really happy for Hannah to win the A-Sun track athlete of the week award," Eggerth added. "She is very deserving. Hannah had a strong freshman year, starting off her career as an All-American, but has stepped it up even more in her sophomore campaign as is evidenced by leading the conference in the 200m; and the A-Sun is deep with talent in the sprints!"
This is Braxton and Wood's first A-Sun Track Performer of the Week award. This is Dorsey's fourth Field Performer of the week award and second so far this season.
The men's and women's Track and Field teams are both traveling to New York City this weekend to race at the Armory.
Both teams kick off their indoor seasons on Friday, January 10 at the Blazer Invitational. Keep up with Owls track and field teams by following KSU on Twitter at
