KENNESAW, Ga. – Kennesaw State junior catcher
Max Pentecost has been named to the 50-man midseason Golden Spikes Award watch list, the publication announced
Thursday.
This season, Pentecost leads the Owls in batting average (.357), hits (55), doubles (13) and homeruns (three). The Winder, Ga., native also is tied for the team lead with 26 RBIs and currently holds the third longest hit streak in the country at 17.
"We continue to be excited for Max and what he has done for Kennesaw State," Head Coach
Mike Sansing said. "It is great to see other groups outside of our university realize what he has done and the year he is having."
The Golden Spikes Award will name the top amateur baseball player in the country on
July 17. Sponsored by Major League Baseball, the Golden Spikes Award will be presented in 2014 for the 37th time.
The watch list features 60 of the nation's top amateur players, and will be a "rolling" list until
May 27 -- when the Golden Spikes Award semifinalists are announced -- ensuring that athletes can play themselves into consideration for the award throughout the collegiate and high school seasons.
Pentecost, the highly touted catcher, was also named to the Baseball America All-American Team as well as the Perfect Game Collegiate Summer Player of the Year, Cape Cod League Player of the Year as well as an All-Atlantic
Sun Conference Second Team member.
The catcher adds to his awards after already being named to the All-A-
Sun Preseason team prior to this season, after a 2013 campaign that saw the catcher hit .302 with a team high 14 doubles and three homeruns.
The plethora of awards come after a stellar summer for the Winder, Ga. native as he put together a batting average of .347 with 29 RBI and six home runs for the Bourne Braves.
Kennesaw State will host Stetson Apr.11-13 at Stillwell Stadium.
