Official ReleaseKENNESAW, Ga. – Kennesaw State men's tennis player
Simon Pritchard (Newport, Wales) has been named to the Atlantic Sun Conference's first team all-conference team and was a unanimous all-freshman team selection, it was announced by the conference office on Wednesday (Apr. 16).
During his first season with the Owls, Pritchard recorded a 15-14 overall singles record, including a 9-10 dual match mark and a 3-5 record in conference play while playing at the No. 1 singles position. Pritchard played primarily with sophomore
Louis Theodor at No. 2 doubles and recorded an 8-5 mark.
Pritchard becomes the first Kennesaw State player to be named first team all-conference since the men's tennis program was instituted at the Division I level and joined the A-Sun Conference in 2008-09. As a freshman a year ago,
Maksim Yorsh made history when he was selected second team all-conference, marking the first time a KSU player had been named to either the first or second team.
The A-Sun Conference all-conference first team consists of nine players, highlighted by Florida Gulf Coast's Jordi Vives, who was named Player of the Year in a vote of conference coaches. North Florida's Jack Findel-Hawkins was tabbed Freshman of the Year while East Tennessee State's Yaser Zaatini was selected Coach of the Year.
Pritchard becomes the fourth Owl to be named to the A-Sun Conference's all-freshman team, joining
Ryan Spencer (2011),
Alex Toliver (2012) and
Tobi Menhofer (2013).
Under first-year head coach
Eduardo Rincon, Kennesaw State finished the 2014 dual match season with an 8-11 overall record. The season was highlighted by a Division I school-record five-match winning streak that included a 2-0 record to start A-Sun Conference play.
