KENNESAW, Ga. – Just past the midway point of the 2014 season the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association has name Kennesaw State baseball relief pitcher Justin McCalvin to its Stopper of the Year Award watch list, it was announced on Wednesday.

Fifty players have been named to the mid-season list for the 10th annual NCBWA award, given to the top relief pitcher in NCAA Division I baseball.

"Justin has been outstanding for us on the mound this season," said head coach Mike Sansing. "When we roll him out there we have the utmost confidence that he's going to get the job done and we know he feels the same. This is a great honor for him and much deserved."

McCalvin has made 23 appearances so far this season with a 1.28 ERA to go with eight saves, tied for the most in the Atlantic Sun Conference. The Leesburg, Ga. native also ranks second in the nation in WHIP with a 0.71 mark and fourth in fewest hits allowed per nine innings at 4.61.

The junior right hander's eight saves puts him at second all-time in the KSU NCAA Division I record books in single season saves, just one behind the DI era leader.

McCalvin currently holds a .165 batting average against and has allowed just six hits with nine strikeouts and five saves in the month of April alone.

Nominations for the NCBWA Stopper of the Year Award were made by baseball sports information/media relations contacts. At the conclusion of the regular season, the Division I national saves leader and four other relief pitching standouts will be selected as finalists and released Wednesday, June 4, prior to start of NCAA Super Regional tournament competition.

The NCBWA's All-America Committee will select the winner, with this year's recipient to be announced during the 2014 College World Series.

The Owls return home this Friday, April 22, for a 6 p.m. ET contest with Atlantic Sun Conference for East Tennessee State, starting off a three-game weekend series for KSU.
