Schedule (PDF) | Tickets | Football Page | Fifth Third Bank Stadium | Signing Day CentralKENNESAW, Ga. (May 1, 2014) – Philip Young has been named assistant director of sports medicine/head football athletic trainer, head football coach Brian Bohannon announced on Thursday (May 1).
Young will oversee the injury prevention, evaluation and management for the Kennesaw State football program, as well as player injury rehab.
"I am extremely excited to join Kennesaw State University and have the opportunity to help build a program with such potential from the ground up," Young said.
Prior to arriving at Kennesaw State, Young worked four years as senior assistant athletic trainer with the Georgia football team where he was in charge of daily operations including: preventative care, treatment, and rehabilitation of injuries to student-athletes. He also maintained medical records of student-athletes and supervised graduate and undergraduate students.
Before arriving in Athens, Young was a graduate assistant athletic trainer for two years (2008-10) at the University of Connecticut where he served as a certified athletic trainer for football, track and field, and the golf teams. He assisted with the development of pre and post-operative rehabilitation programs and was responsible for routine game and practice field supervision.
A 2008 cum laude graduate of the University of Georgia, Young earned a bachelor's degree in exercise and sports science and athletic training. While an undergraduate, Young served as a student athletic trainer, assisting with the Bulldogs' baseball, football and track and field programs. He also spent the summer of 2007 working as a training camp intern with the Atlanta Falcons.
Young is a graduate of Pope High School in Marietta where he was a four-year letter winner in football where he played along the offensive and defensive lines. He and his wife, Jamie, currently reside in Acworth.
