OFFICIAL RELEASE

KENNESAW, Ga. – In what is sure to be a busy postseason for his trophy case, Kennesaw State catcher Max Pentecost brought home is first piece of hardware, earning the title of Louisville Slugger First Team All-American, Collegiate Baseball announced on Thursday.

Pentecost is the only catcher to land a spot on the 17-person first team after a season in which he shattered nearly every KSU single season offensive record, earning the school's first ever Atlantic Sun Conference Player of the Year award as well.

"It's a blessing to be named to that prestigious of a list at the highest level," said Pentecost of the award. "As an A-Sun player, I didn't know how much better it could get, but to get recognized like that at the national level is exciting. I'm glad I can put Kennesaw State's name out there and I hope I can open up the opportunity for future players."

The junior collected 104 hits this season, pacing the nation in that category, while compiling a batting average of .423, the second highest in the land.

The Winder, Georgia, native also ranks in the top 25 nationally in a slew of other categories including third in total bases (156), 11th in slugging (.634), 12th in doubles (21), 17th in runs scored (57) and 23rd in on base percentage (.477).

Pentecost also holds the nation's longest hit streak at any point this season at 36 games and has been named a semifinalists in nearly every major college baseball award including the Johnny Bench Award, the Gregg Olson Award, the Dick Howser Award and the Golden Spikes Award.

"It's a culmination of what he's done all year," said head coach Mike Sansing. "We're appreciative of Louisville Slugger for their recognition and Owl Nation is excited and supportive of what he's been able to put together."

The catcher backed up his high preseason accolades with his play in 2014, having been named to the Baseball All-America Preseason Team as well as the A-Sun Preseason All-Conference Team.

The Owls are making their way to Tallahassee, Florida, to take place in the Florida State regional. KSU's first game will be Friday, May 30, at noon ET and can be seen live on ESPN3.
