KENNESAW, Ga. – Kennesaw State cross country runner Daniel Garcia earned his first career Atlantic Sun Runner of the Week honor for his performance at the Clemson Invitational, the conference announced on Wednesday afternoon.

"Receiving the A-Sun Athlete of the Week honor is well deserved for Daniel," Director of Track and Field and Cross Country Andy Eggerth said. "He has been working hard in the off-season and has continued to push through the heavy training and soreness that comes during the fall workload. The sky is the limit for Daniel and I look forward to seing where he goes from here! "

A freshman business major from Barcelona, Spain, Garcia finished  first overall with a 5k time of 19;44.57 in the four  team, 47 individual field, helping the Owls finish third as a team.

Garcia is the first Owl to take home a runner of the week award on the men's side since Nabil Hamid in 2012.

Garcia and the Owls will run in their second meet of the season on Saturday, September 20, at the UF Mountain Dew invitational in Gainesville, Fla.
