KENNESAW, Ga. – The recognition and accolades from a record-breaking season continue for the Kennesaw State baseball team as head coach
Mike Sansing and All-American catcher
Max Pentecost will be honored this week.
Â
Sansing, who guided the Owls to their first Atlantic Sun Conference title and NCAA Division I postseason appearance, and Pentecost, who was named a first-team All-American and winner of the Johnny Bench Award as the country's top collegiate catcher, will be recognized as the Georgia Dugout Club's 2014 Division I Coach of the Year and Player of the Year, respectively, by the Georgia Baseball Coaches Association.
Â
Sansing and Pentecost will be honored on Saturday, Jan. 17 during the second day of the 2015 Georgia Dugout Club Coaches Clinic at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Atlanta.
Â
In his 23rd season as head coach of the Owls, Sansing guided KSU to a 40-24 overall record, the Tallahassee Regional title and a trip to the Louisville Super Regional. Kennesaw State concluded the year ranked No. 13 byÂ
Collegiate Baseball.
Â
Among the single-season records the Owls established a year ago were most Division I wins (40), and longest winning streak (16). KSU also became the first team since 1993 and fifth all-time to win a regional in its first appearance.
Â
Pentecost produced a year that will be difficult to duplicate as he led the nation with 113 hits and finished second in the country with a .422 average and 168 total bases while totaling nine home runs and 61 RBI. He was named the A-Sun Conference's Player of the Year, selected a finalist for the Gregg Olson Award and semifinalist for the Dick Howser and Golden Spikes Awards.
Â
The Winder, Ga. native capped his spring by becoming the No. 11 overall selection by the Toronto Blue Jays in the 2014 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft.
Â
Kennesaw State has begun practice for the 2015 season and will open the year on Feb. 13 when it hosts Liberty at Stillwell Stadium beginning at 4 p.m.
