KENNESAW, Ga. – Junior Jasmine McAllister earned her fourth career Atlantic Sun Conference Newcomer of the Week accolade after leading the Kennesaw State women's basketball team its first win in a league opener since the 2008-09 season, the conference announced on Monday (Jan. 12).
 
"I thought Jasmine did a really good job this week, just bouncing back and giving 100 percent effort which is something we have talked about," said head coach Nitra Perry. "She did a great job sealing and just paying attention to the details, so I thought it was very rewarding for her to get this award. She continues to be a leader for the team by her actions and is still a very selfless kid and great kid to coach."
 
It is the seventh weekly honor that the Owls have garnered this season, with junior Karly Frye also collecting Newcomer of the Week accolades once before and senior Kristina Wells and sophomore Deandrea Sawyers each taking home Player of the Week honors this season.
 
McAllister averaged 15.5 points and 10.0 rebounds over the course of the week, while also shooting the ball at a 58.3 percent clip. She paced the Owls with her league-leading ninth double-double of the season in a 72-63 road win over USC Upstate on Saturday, posting 17 points, including 14 in the second half, 11 rebounds and two blocks.
 
Earlier in the week, McAllister was one rebound short of a double-double to lead the Owls against Mercer with 14 points on 7-of-12 shooting and nine rebounds.
 
For the season, the Nashville, Tenn., native is averaging 15.1 points and 11.3 rebounds per contest, ranking third and first in the conference in those categories, respectively.
 
McAllister and Owls next return to the KSU Convocation Center for their A-Sun home opener on Wednesday, Jan. 14 and will take on Northern Kentucky at 7 p.m. ET.
