KENNESAW, Ga. – Kennesaw State freshman
Joyce Mattagliano earned her second straight Atlantic Sun indoor track and field track athlete of the week award following her performance at the Blazer Invitational, the conference announced Wednesday, January 14.
"I'm proud of Joyce and her accomplishment," director of track and field and cross country
Andy Eggerth said. "She has never run the mile before, so it was a case of bravery that worked out pretty well.
Mattagliano finished third in the one mile race while setting a school record with a time of 4:58.26, which currently ranks 31
st nationally. She is the first woman in Kennesaw State history to run under five minutes in the one mile race. After taking a brief break, Mattagliano returned to the track finishing second in the 800m with a time of 2:13.40.
Mattagliano and the Owls will be back on the track this weekend January 16-17
th at the ETSU Track and Field Invitational in Johnson City Tn.
