WBB: McAllister Selected to A-Sun Preseason All-Conference Team

Owls Picked Fourth in Coaches Poll

2015-16 A-SUN PRESEASON TEAM | A-SUN RELEASE

KENNESAW, Ga. – Kennesaw State women's basketball senior forward Jasmine McAllister earned a spot on the 2015-16 Preseason Atlantic Sun All-Conference Team, the league office announced on Thursday afternoon (Oct. 15).

"Jasmine is much deserving of the recognition from the Atlantic Sun. She put in a lot of hard work over the summer and I am extremely proud and excited for her to be honored to the preseason all-conference team," head coach Nitra Perry said.

McAllister enjoyed a breakout season in 2014-15, starting 29 of the 30 games during her first season as an Owl. The Memphis, Tennessee native was named the 2014-15 Atlantic Sun Conference Newcomer of the Year and Second Team All-Conference.

She paced the Owls with 413 points and 317 rebounds, averaging team-highs of 13.8 points and 10.6 boards per game to rank seventh and second, respectively, in the A-Sun. McAllister also ranked 23rd nationally in rebounds per game, while leading the league in offensive rebounds per game with 4.3 per contest and totaled 128 offensive rebounds.

McAllister also proved to be a force in the paint for Kennesaw State, ranking second in the conference with 9.5 boards per game and totaled 31 blocked shots – which ranked seventh overall. Overall, McAllister proved to be a double-double machine, leading the conference and ranking 22nd overall in the NCAA with 15 double-doubles. She also registered 18 games with 10 or more rebounds to rank second in the conference.

"She is more than capable of continuing to get double-doubles this season but we also have a strong supporting cast around her to help her this season," Perry said.

The Walters State transfer poured in a career-best 26 points on 11-of-16 shooting at Georgia State on Dec. 3. She also pulled down a career-best 19 rebounds to go along with 19 points against USC Upstate on Feb. 7. Not only was McAllister a one-two punch scoring and rebounding, the then-junior also was a defensive presence in the middle, posting a career-high seven blocked shots at Jacksonville on Dec. 13.

The A-Sun Conference also released its preseason women's basketball coaches and media polls with KSU coming in fourth in both polls. FGCU earned the top position in both polls for the second consecutive year, followed by Stetson and Jacksonville in the second and third positions. USC Upstate placed fifth, while Lipscomb, NJIT and North Florida finished out the polls.

The Owls will begin their 2015-16 campaign with an exhibition on Sunday, Nov. 8 against Emory before opening the season at home when they welcome crosstown rival Georgia State to the KSU Convocation Center. The Owls will play 15 home contests that also include the Thanksgiving Classic Tournament on Nov. 28-29.

"The season is not far away and we are very excited about getting things started. It's good to play a lot of home games. Our fans are great and playing in front of them this season will be fun," Perry said. "We are looking to keep our home trend going of being tough to be at the KSU Convocation Center."

Perry is entering her fourth season as the head coach for the Owls. She became the sixth head coach in program's history on April 25, 2012 and is coming off her most successful season at the helm after KSU went 17-13 in 2014-15 to record the winningest season in Kennesaw State's tenure at the Division I era.
