MG: Jake Fendt Earns First Career A-Sun Conference Player of the Week Honor

Kennesaw State Freshman led Team at Jerry Pate National Intercollegiate

A-Sun Release

KENNESAW, Ga. – Freshman Jake Fendt has been named the Atlantic Sun Conference Men's Golfer of the Week, the conference announced on Thursday (Oct. 8). It marks his first career player of the week honor.

Fendt tied teammate Christopher Guglielmo for 20th place at the 12-team Jerry Pate National Intercollegiate that concluded Tuesday (Oct. 6) at the par-70, 7,228-yard Old Overton Golf Club in Vestavia Hills, Ala. The field included 10 teams that advanced to NCAA postseason play a year ago.

After opening with a 2-over par 72 in the first round, Fendt recorded scores of 73 and 67 for a 2-over par total of 212. His final-round score and 54-hole total represent career bests.

"Jake has been a model student-athlete to begin his college career at Kennesaw State," head coach Bryant Odom said. "He is working very hard in class and at practice and it is reflective in his play. I am very proud of Jake receiving Player of the Week honors. There will surely be many more awards coming his way."

Through his first two career tournaments, Fendt leads Kennesaw State with a 72.17 stroke average and two Top 20 finishes.

Fendt and the Owls will next be in action when they host the Pinetree Intercollegiate at nearby Pinetree Country Club Oct. 19-20.
