Meet 6: Kennesaw State at NCAA Cross Country South Region Championships

Race Preview
Four members of the Kennesaw State Cross Country teams will head to Tuscaloosa, Alabama to run in the NCAA Cross Country South Regionals at the Harry Pritchett Running Park at 10 a.m. ET.
The women will run a 6-kilometer race beginning at 10 a.m. ET, and the men will run a 10-kilometer race beginning at 11 a.m. ET. A total of 27 men's and 36 women's teams are slated to compete in this year's South Region Championships. The top two teams in each race will automatically qualify for the NCAA Championships, while the remaining teams wait for the announcement of the at-large selections made by the NCAA Division I Cross Country Subcommittee. Additionally, a total of 38 individuals not on an advancing team will also move on to the national meet for each gender, with 36 of those automatically qualifying by being one of the top four finishers in the region not on an advancing team, while two others will be at-large selections.
Simone Colombini and
Jordan Hand will represent the Kennesaw State men in the competition. Columbini has been the Owls top finisher in all five meets this season including four top-ten finishes. He finished 13
th in the 8k at the A-Sun Cross Country Championships which earned him Atlantic Sun Second Team All-Conference and Atlantic Sun All-Freshmen team honors. Hand is the lone returner off last years squad. Hand was an integral part of the cross country team as the lone returner off last year's squad. He led them to a fifth place finish in the Atlantic Sun Championships. The Snellville, Georgia native competed in all five meets this season, ran his lifetime best time in the 5K in 16:08.57 at the Front Runner Invitational. He would follow that up with a lifetime best time of 26:37.93 in the 8k at the A-Sun Championships.
Kidan Kidane and
Amanda Cope will represent the Owls in the women's 6k race. Kidane was the Owls top finisher in all five meets this season. She has finished second twice and fourth three times in all of the team's five meets this season. She ran her best time in the 5K at 17:16.25 in the A-Sun Championships where she finished second overall and earned Atlantic Sun First Team All-Conference Honors. Cope is a senior who will compete in her final race as an Owl in Cross Country. She has improved in every meet and been a leader on this year's team. She enters the race having finished in the top 61 in all five races this season.
Owls Compete Well at Atlantic Sun Championships
The Kennesaw State men's and women's cross country teams competed in the Atlantic Sun Conference Cross Country Championship on Friday (Oct.30) at UNF Golf Course in Jacksonville, Florida. The men's finished fifth while the women earned a sixth place finish.
