Atlantic Sun Release
KENNESAW, Ga. – Kennesaw State's
Bilal Abdullah swept the Atlantic Sun Men's Indoor Track and Field weekly awards following his performance at the BSC Panther Icebreaker the conference announced Wednesday.
"It's an honor for the Owls to sweep the A-Sun Athlete of the Week awards," director of track and field and cross country coach
Andy Eggerth said. "As one of the top combined event athletes in the nation it makes sense that Bilal would win both track athlete of the week and the field athlete of the week awards. Interestingly, he never even competed in the events in high school that won him these awards now. Obviously he has the talent, but Bilal has brought a great deal of focus and a tremendous work ethic this fall so I'm really happy to see him begin the season at the highest level he left off at the NCAA Championships last year. It's a privilege for myself and my coaching staff to assist athletes that have such talent and motivation. "
Abdullah took home two first place finishes at the Panther Icebreaker. The senior ran a meet record time of 7.96 in the 60m hurdles preliminary round to win his heat. He finished first overall in the 60m hurdles finals in 7.94 seconds. That time of 7.94 seconds, established a new meet record, is the second fastest in KSU history, and is currently third fastest in the nation. Abdullah also competed in the long jump, He won the long jump with a new meet record jump of 7.63m (25-0.5). That jump is the currently second longest in the nation, is the second longest in KSU history, and leads the Atlantic Sun by nearly for four feet.
Abdullah and the Owls return to action on January 15-16, 2016 when they compete in a pair of one day meets at the UAB Blazer Invitational and UAB Vulcan Invitational.
