WTRACK: Kidane and Robinson Earn Atlantic Sun Track and Field Performer of the Week Awards

Both Collected Event Wins and Posted Strong Performances at the Panther Icebreaker

Atlantic Sun Release

KENNESAW, Ga.
– Kennesaw State juniors Kidan Kidane and Shakedra Robinson swept the Atlantic Sun Indoor Track and Field weekly awards following their performances at the BSC Panther Icebreaker the conference announced Wednesday.

"It's an honor for the Owls to sweep the A-Sun Athlete of the Week awards ," director of track and field and cross country coach Andy Eggerth said. "Kidan continues plugging away, getting better and better.  What I really like with her is that she's getting her mind right, developing a tenacity which resulted in two lifetime best races last weekend.  Shakedra was here this summer putting in some voluntary workouts.  Not the fun stuff.  She was doing circuits, weight lifting, and mobility work.  Clearly that's paid off as she opened higher than ever before, had no misses until her final height, and leads the conference by half a foot in the high jump.  It's a privilege for myself and my coaching staff to assist athletes that have such talent and motivation."

Kidane, participated in the 3000m run and the 1 mile run for Kennesaw State at the BSC Panther Icebreaker. In the first track event of the day, Kidane pulled ahead late in the 3000m race to win the race with a time of 9:56.99. She won by nearly 20 sesonds and it was her personal best time in the 3000m. Her time was good for third fastest in school history on an oversized/ banked track and 18th best in the country currently. Later in the afternoon, she came back and finished fourth (second amongst college competitors) in the 1 mile run in  5:00.53 which is second best in school history and 17th best in the country currently.  This is her first indoor track athlete of the week award.

Robinson competed in the high jump at the BSC Panther Icebreaker. She tied for a win in the high jump with a jump of 1.70m (5-7). That jump is currently best in the Atlantic Sun by 0.15m, is tied for second best in school school history and is tied for 12th best in the country.  This is her first ever indoor field performer of the week award.

The Owls return to action on January 15-16, 2016 when they compete in a pair of one day meets at the UAB Blazer Invitational and UAB Vulcan Invitational.
