Jordan Gray and
Joyce Mattagliano swept the Atlantic Sun Indoor Track and Field weekly awards following their performances at the Jack Johnson Classic the conference announced Wednesday.
Gray finished fourth overall in the pentathlon at the Jack Johnson Classic after finishing in the top- five in three of her five events. The freshmen finished fifth in the 60m hurdles with a time of 9.13. She finished fourth in the long jump with a leap of 5.49m. Gray took home fourth in the shot put with a throw of 11.25m. She finished with a total of 3522 points.
"Jordan is the epitome of a student-athlete with a 4.0 GPA and working very hard on the track," director of track and field and cross country
Andy Eggerth said. "She opened her first ever collegiate pentathlon with a conference leading performance by over 100 points. It'll be enjoyable to watch how she continues to develop over her career."
Mattagliano continued her continues her winning ways at the University of Minnesota claiming the 800m by almost four seconds She ran a flat track converted time of 2:07.50, good for another school record and moving her to 22nd in the NCAA. The freshmen followed that up with a fast leg on the conference leading 4x400m relay.
"Joyce has made a great transition into the US system.," Eggerth said. " It can be hard for international athletes to make that jump, but Joyce has been open-minded and working very hard and the results paid off. We're getting into the time of season where we'll start unloading training so I can't wait to see how she continues to drop times!"
The Owls will head to Massachusetts for a pair of meets on January 6-7th. They will compete in the Harvard Elite meet on Friday, February 6th and the Scarlet and White Invite hosted by Boston University on January 7th.
