Official ReleaseKENNESAW, Ga. – Freshman
Fredrik Nilehn has been named the Atlantic Sun Conference Co-Men's Golfer of the Week, the conference announced on Wednesday (April 15). It marks the second time this season he has been honored after sharing this week's honor with Northern Kentucky's .
Nilehn put together an impressive performance at the Irish Creek Collegiate that concluded on April 12. The Owls freshman tied for individual medalist and then won a playoff, defeating North Florida's Taylor Hancock after recording a birdie on the third playoff hole.
"I appreciate the honor from the conference office and look forward to the A-Sun Conference Championships this weekend," Nilehn said.
Nilehn finished the 54-hole event with a 5-under par 208 total after shooting rounds of 66-68-74. The win marked his second of the season after turning in a record-breaking performance to earn individual medalist honors at the Pinetree Intercollegiate last October. It marked Nilehn's fifth top 20 finish and fourth top 10 showing in 10 events. He is currently fourth on the Kennesaw State team with a 72.21 scoring average.
"I am thrilled for Fredrik to earn his second A-Sun Conference Player of the Week award," Kennesaw State head coach
Jay Moseley said. "He played great at Irish Creek and his performance in the playoff was very special and impressive considering the pressure he faced playing in front of a big crowd."
The Golfer of the Week honor marks the sixth time this season that a Kennesaw State golfer has been recognized. Sophomore
Teremoana Beaucousin has earned the accolade three times, while senior
Jimmy Beck also was honored for his play.
The Owls return to action on Sunday, April 19, when they open play at the Atlantic Sun Conference Championships at Chateau Elan in Braselton, Ga.
