MACON, Ga. – Sophomore
Teremoana Beaucousin highlighted a group of four Kennesaw State players named all-conference as he was unanimously selected the Atlantic Sun Conference Men's Golfer of the Year, the league announced on Thursday (April 30).
Beaucousin becomes the second Kennesaw State player to earn the conference's top honor, joining Jeff Karlsson, who was tabbed Player of the Year in 2011.
Senior
Jimmy Beck became the second Kennesaw State player (Karlsson) to become a three-time all-conference selection when he was unanimously voted onto the first team.
Fredrik Nilehn and senior
Austin Vick were selected second-team honorees, with Nilehn was a unanimous selection to the All-Freshman team.
"This is the most talented team we have ever had at KSU and it shows in the recognition and awards we received today," head coach
Jay Moseley said. "I am very appreciative of the A-Sun Conference office, coaches, and communication staff for recognizing the efforts of our players.
"These awards are a byproduct of the hard work, discipline and a commitment to improving that our players have made and I am most proud of those efforts that our student-athletes put forth every day," Moseley added.
Beaucousin is enjoying an outstanding sophomore campaign as he leads the Owls with a 71.14 stroke average, nine top 20 finishes, including five top 10s, and has been the team's top finisher five times. The second-year player has also produced 19 of 29 rounds at even par or better and recorded a team-high tying nine rounds in the 60s.
"
Teremoana Beaucousin is truly a special talent. What is so exciting for me as a coach is that Teremoana knows he can get even better and works every day to improve his strengths and weaknesses as he strives to learn day in and day out in order to improve his game," Moseley said. "It is truly remarkable that he was a unanimous selection as Atlantic Sun Conference Player of the Year in what he would consider an "okay" year by his standards."
Beck is completing one of the finest careers in program history. He ranks second on the Owls with a 71.27 scoring average, has seven Top 20 finishes, six top 10s, and is coming off his best showing of the season after tying for second at the A-Sun Conference Championships.
"
Jimmy Beck has been a legitimate player of the year candidate for three straight years and he has been a model of consistency and excellence during his career as an Owl," Moseley said.
Vick is also putting together a sold final season as evident by his 72.31 scoring average, five top 20 finishes, including three Top 10s. Vick's highest finish was third-place showing at the Pinetree Intercollegiate. The Owls' senior has recorded eight rounds in the 60s and 10 rounds under par.
"I am thrilled for
Austin Vick to be named to the all-conference team during his senior year because he has been a huge asset to our program with his competitiveness and leadership, Moseley said.
It did not take Nilehn long to make history at Kennesaw State as he shattered several program records en route to claiming individual medalist honors at the Pinetree Intercollegiate last October. The first-year player from Sweden has posted a 72.09 stroke average and twice earned individual medalist honors. His second win came at the Irish Creek Collegiate where he won a three-hole playoff.
"
Fredrik Nilehn has shown his flashes of brilliance and talent with his two victories as a freshman and under normal circumstances he would have been a lock for Freshman of the Year, but Dawson Armstrong had an amazing season for Lipscomb," Moseley said. "I am very proud of Fredrik for his contributions to our program in only his first year."
Kennesaw State will now turn its attention to Monday, May 4 when the announcement of the 81-team field to the NCAA Division I Men's Golf Championships will be made live on the Golf Channel at 10 a.m. (ET). The Owls will hold a watch party at Pinetree Country Club.
