CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Kennesaw State senior men's golfer Jimmy Beck has been named to the 2014-15 Division I Capital One Academic All-District® At-Large First Team, the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) announced on Thursday (May 14).
 
Nominated and voted by members of CoSIDA, the Capital One Academic All-America® teams recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom. The Academic All-District Teams are divided into eight geographical districts across the United States and Canada.
 
Kennesaw State is part of District 4 that includes the states of Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Puerto Rico and South Carolina. As a first-team Academic All-District honoree, Beck advances to the Capital One Academic All-America® Team ballot, where first-, second- and third-team All-America honorees will be selected later this month.
 
"The Capital One Academic All-America program long has been recognized as one of the premier programs that honor student-athletes who excel athletically and academically," head coach Jay Moseley said. "To be named to the Academic All-District Team is a great honor for Jimmy, and recognition he should feel proud about.
 
"He has been a tremendous student-athlete and I am extremely happy to see him recognized by the CoSIDA members for his hard work the past four years," Moseley said. "To graduate with 3.77 grade-point average while majoring in business finance speaks volumes about his character and work ethic."
 
Beck, who graduated earlier this week, recently was named the Atlantic Sun Conference Men's Golf Scholar-Athlete of the Year and a unanimous selection to the conference's all-academic team.
 
Beck has helped the Owls earn an at-large berth to the NCAA Division I Men's Golf Championships where they are currently competing in the NCAA Chapel Hill Regional at the UNC Finley Golf Course in Chapel Hill, N.C.
 
The Columbus, Ga. native joins Ben Greene and Peder Lunde Hermansson as Kennesaw State men's golfers who have earned Capital One Academic All-District® At-Large First Team honors. Greene and Hermansson went on to receive second team Capital One Academic All-America® recognition in 2013.
