BSB: Friese Named Atlantic Sun Pitcher of the Week

Gabe Friese threw an 85-pitch complete game against North Florida

Atlantic Sun Release

MACON, Ga. – Sophomore Gabe Friese earned Atlantic Sun Conference Pitcher of the Week for the first time in his career after his gutsy performance on the mound Saturday afternoon against North Florida, announced by the league office on Sunday afternoon.

Friese, a Kennesaw, Georgia native, put together arguably his best performance of his young Owl career on Saturday (May 16) afternoon against the regular-season champion North Florida Ospreys. Friese (5-5) tossed his first collegiate complete game, allowing just five hits to help KSU snap UNF's 14-game winning streak –which was the second longest streak in the nation. The sophomore issued just one walk and dealt five 1-2-3 innings on just 85 pitches in his impressive performance to earn his fifth win of the season.

"Gabe Friese threw extremely well. He had an unbelievable pitch count and did a good job mixing his pitches and used both sides of the plate," head coach Mike Sansing said. "We will take it and look forward to the tournament. It's a great thing to have the conference honor him for his effort and I am very proud."
