BSB: Chris Erwin Named Louisville Slugger National Player of the Week

Chris Erwin Tied KSU's D-I record of 15 strikeouts in a single game.

TUCSON, Ariz. – Chris Erwin was tabbed one of five student-athletes honored to the Louisville Slugger National Player of Week list, announced by Collegiate Baseball on Monday (May 18) afternoon.

Erwin, a two-way player sophomore from Grayson, Georgia, tied Kyle Heckathorn's record of 15 punch outs set back in 2009 at KSU in a single game since joining the Atlantic Sun Conference at the Division I level. His performance was the most strikeouts recorded in the Atlantic Sun single game since Chris Sale fanned 15 on April 23, 2010.

Erwin (5-4) struck out at least one batter in six over his 7.1 innings of work, and recorded four innings with at least two strikeouts. The two-way player also record two RBI at the plate, going 1-for-4 to help the Owls' lineup offensively.

"We feel that Chris Erwin is an excellent two-way guy and Tuesday's performance against Georgia Southern proved that," head coach Mike Sansing said. "I'm happy for him. He's had an outstanding year on the mound and at the plate and is a very talented player."

Kennesaw State will turn back around and take on North Florida in the opening round of the 2015 Atlantic Sun Tournament at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, May 20 in Fort Myers, Florida. The Owls (28-26, 10-10) will enter the tournament as the No. 6 seed, while UNF (42-14, 16-5) will enter the week as the No. 1 seed. The game will be broadcasted on ESPN3 at Swanson Stadium.
