MTRACK: Owls Collect Two Atlantic Sun Postseason Awards

Mulder and Eggerth Win Awards After Dominating A-Sun Championships

Atlantic Sun Release

KENNESAW, Ga. –
A week after winning their third straight Outdoor Atlantic Sun Championship, the Kennesaw State men's track and field team collected a pair of postseason outdoor awards.

Joshua Mulder picked up an award after having stellar performances in the field events. Director of Track and Field Andy Eggerth claimed his fourth Outdoor A-Sun Coach of the Year award.

Mulder  was named the Most Outstanding Field Athlete after totaling 28 points in  five different field events (High Jump, Triple Jump, Javelin Throw, Long Jump, Shot Put,). He claimed a gold medal and two silver medals in three of those events including setting the school and conference record with a leap of 4.91m. He won a two golds and a silver medal in the track events Mulder also won the Most Valuable Performer for the meet after scoring 48.5 points total over the two days. He will compete at the first round of the NCAA Championship in the 400m hurdles and the NCAA Championship in the decathlon.

"Mulder is very deserving of this award," Eggerth said.  "He asked me if he could come in last summer to do some voluntary pole vault work which I was happy to oblige.  Obviously this paid off as he progressed from being a 12'8" pole vaulter to being conference champion and jumping over 16'; but it's more than just this.  His passion, dedication, and work ethic set him apart from most athletes.  Clearly there's some talent there, but Mulder isn't the most talented.  He came in as a walk-on and here he is three years later as Conference MVP, Field Performer of the Year, and will be competing at the NCAA Championship this weekend and again at the final round 2 weeks later.  There are few as deserving as Mulder. I'm very proud of him!"

Eggerth guided his team to the second highest point total in conference history, 32 medals won, 10 event wins, the decathlon points record and eight decathlon event conference records and 11 season best performances.

"I really feel unworthy of the Coach of the Year award," Eggerth added. "The more we learn the more our minds are opened and we realize is yet to be learned.  This is how coaching seems to go for me.  Early in my profession I thought I was something pretty special, but I keep learning areas that I need to grow and am constantly humbled.  Hopefully next year I'll be able to better serve my student-athletes and staff than this year."
