MACON, Ga. – Displaying the characteristics that define a college student-athlete, Kennesaw State senior men's golfer
Jimmy Beck was recognized for his talent and values when he was named to the Atlantic Sun Conference's 2014-15 "Winners for Life Team" that was announced by the conference on Wednesday (June 3).
Â
In its second year, the team honors student-athletes from each of the eight member institutions who best represent the A-Sun's commitment to "Building Winners for Life." Those student-athletes maintain the highest standards in academic and athletic achievement; represent a true balance between student and athlete; exhibit and promote sportsmanship in the competitive experience; and exhibit leadership through community service on- and off-campus and at home.
Â
Beck, who concluded a brilliant collegiate career on May 16 at the NCAA Chapel Hill Regional, led Kennesaw State with a 71.15 stroke average that ranks second all-time in program history. During his four years at KSU, Beck produced a 72.72 scoring average that ranks No. 1 among KSU players who have concluded their collegiate careers. He also helped the Owls to four straight NCAA regionals and the 2014 finals in Hutchinson, Kan.
Â
Beck's excellence was not only reserved for the course as he also excelled academically, twice being named Atlantic Sun Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Year following his junior and senior years. In May, the Columbus, Ga. native was named to the 2014-15 Division I Capital One Academic All-District® At-Large First Team by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
Â
Beck concluded his academic career with a 3.77 grade-point average, graduating with a degree in business finance. The men's golf standout was also honored earlier this spring as the 2014-15 Kennesaw State Dr. Dave Waples Total Person Award recipient, and received the Wise Owl Award at the annual KSU Golden Globes, the yearly student-athlete awards banquet.
Â
Each institution's honoree for the Winners for Life Team is selected by the institution with oversight by the Faculty Athletic Representative (FAR). Each honoree should be a campus citizen that is respected as one who shares and/or demonstrates the A-Sun's Core Values:
