NORMAN, Okla. –
Jimmy Beck and
Austin Vick, who rank among the most accomplished players in program history, and contributed significantly to the Kennesaw State men's golf team's rise to national prominence, capped impressive four-year careers by being named Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholars by the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA), it was announced on Wednesday (July 22).
Beck and Vick were part of a group of 206 Division I men's golfers honored for their accomplishments in the classroom, on the course and in the community. This year marks the fourth consecutive year that two Owls have been honored in the same season.
Beck, who concluded a brilliant collegiate career on May 16 at the NCAA Chapel Hill Regional, led Kennesaw State with a 71.15 stroke average that ranks second all-time in program history. During his four years at KSU, Beck produced a 72.72 scoring average that ranks No. 1 among KSU players who have concluded their collegiate careers. He also helped the Owls to four straight NCAA regionals and the 2014 finals in Hutchinson, Kan.
Beck's excellence was not only reserved for the course as he also excelled academically, twice being named Atlantic Sun Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Year following his junior and senior years. In May, the Columbus, Ga. native was named to the 2014-15 Division I Capital One Academic All-District® At-Large First Team by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
Beck concluded his academic career with a 3.77 grade-point average, graduating with a degree in business finance.
Vick, who also earned all-conference and all-academic honors, concluded his senior campaign with a career-best single-season scoring average of 72.43, five top 20 finishes, including three top 10s. Vick's highest finish was third-place showing at the Pinetree Intercollegiate. The Owls' senior recorded nine rounds in the 60s and 11 rounds under par, and finished his career with a 73.63 stroke average that ranks sixth all-time for players who concluded their careers.
In the classroom, Vick has maintained 3.60 grade-point average while majoring in business finance.
Beck, who is a repeat honoree, and Vick bring the total number of times Kennesaw State players have earned All-America Scholar recognition to 14.
To be eligible for Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholar status an individual must be a junior or senior academically, compete in at least three full years at the collegiate level, participate in 50-percent of his team's competitive rounds, have a stroke-average under 76.0 in Division I and be of high moral character and be in good standing at his college or university.
