Preseason All-Conference VideoMACON, Ga. – With the 2016 Kennesaw State baseball campaign just a few weeks away, redshirt sophomore
Taylor Allum has been named to the Atlantic Sun Conference Preseason All-Conference team, announced Wednesday (Jan. 27) afternoon by the league office.
"It's a great honor to see
Taylor Allum get selected to the Atlantic Sun Conference Preseason All-Conference team," head coach
Mike Sansing said. "If you look at the selections this year, you can see it has a very talented group and for Taylor to be included is a tremendous honor. He is coming off an All-American season and I am looking forward to seeing him compete this year."
Allum has been named one of three A-Sun Preseason All-Conference outfielders after posting a .320 batting average in 41 total games in 2015 – which ranked second on the Owls' rosters. Allum, who played outfield for the majority of the 2015 season, also hit an incredible .415 in league play, totaling 27 hits and produced 10 RBI in conference action.
In addition to his breakout season, Allum was named a 2015 Louisville Slugger Freshman All-American and was tabbed to the 2015 Atlantic Sun Conference All-Second Team as part of his strong play on the diamond last season.
The A-Sun Preseason Coaches' Poll also was announced on Wednesday afternoon, as the Owls placed fifth with 37 total points. North Florida (58) received four first-place votes to sit at the top, while Florida Gulf Coast (50) received three first-place votes to finish just behind the Ospreys.
Defending tournament champions Lipscomb (48) finished third in the coaches' poll, and Stetson (43) came in at fourth with a first-place vote to finish ahead of the Owls.
Jacksonville (28), USC Upstate (14) and newly-membered NJIT (8) round out the polls, sitting in sixth, seventh and eighth, respectively.
The Owls will feature 54 games throughout the 2016 season, including 34 tilts at Stillwell Stadium. The Owls open the season on Feb. 19 at home against VCU as part of the annual Atlanta Classic. KSU will also welcome Purdue and Western Michigan to Stillwell Stadium as part of the opening weekend.
The Owls will also embark on 20 road games, featuring non-conference matchups with in-state rivals Georgia, Georgia State, Georgia Southern and Mercer. Kennesaw State will also welcome SEC foe Auburn to Stillwell Stadium on April 12 as part of a home-and-home. KSU will trek to USC Upstate, Jacksonville and Florida Gulf Coast in A-Sun action, while welcoming UNF, defending conference champions Lipscomb, Stetson and A-Sun newcomer NJIT on the campus of Kennesaw State.
