Atlantic Sun Release
KENNESAW, Ga. – Kennesaw State's
Bilal Abdullah swept the Atlantic Sun Men's Indoor Track and Field weekly awards for the third time this season following his performance at the Gladstein Invitational the conference announced Wednesday.
"Bilal has been killing it this season," director of track and field and cross country coach
Andy Eggerth said. " He's competing at a higher level than he ever has which is fun but also more taxing. Although he had another successful weekend I could see he's starting to get beat down so we'll rest him this weekend. You can't work a quarter horse like a plow horse. As we rest him and he bounces back, you'll surely see even greater things. What shouldn't go unmentioned is the quality of training partners that Bilal has to help push him to greatness.
Joshua Mulder posted a top 15 NCAA mark in the same heptathlon,
Andre Dorsey is a six-time All-American, and
Joseph Yates and
Dayo Akindele) are doing big things as well."
Abdullah, who finished fourth at the 2015 NCAA Indoor Championships in the heptathlon, won the heptathlon scoring 5688 points at the Gladstein Invitational. That score is currently third best in the NCAA this season, number two amongst all Americans, and fifth best in the world this season. He opened the meet with a win in the 60m with a time of 7.09 second which is third fastest in school heptathlon history and second fastest in the A-Sun. He jumped 7.27m (23'10.25) to finish as the top collegian in the long jump. His only struggle came in the shot put which he finished seventh with a toss of 11.96m (39'3). He closed out his big first day finishing as the top collegiate in the high jump with a leap of 2.10m (6'10.75).
