Atlantic Sun Release KENNESAW, Ga. – Kennesaw State's
Bilal Abdullah and
Joshua Mulder swept the Atlantic Sun Men's Indoor Track and Field weekly awards following their performance at the New Mexico Classic the conference announced Wednesday.
Abdullah was named Atlantic Sun Track Athlete of the Week and Mulder earned the Atlantic Sun Field Athlete of the Week award.
Abdullah, who already won the heptathlon at the Gladstein Invitational earlier this season, was the top collegiate in the heptathlon scoring 5891 points at the New Mexico Classic. That score is currently third best in the NCAA this season, number three amongst all Americans, and sixth best in the world this season. He won the 60m dash in 6.91 seconds which currently leads the A-Sun amongst active student athletes. He also won the 60m hurdles race in 8.04 seconds.
"Bilal continues to impress," director of track and field and cross country coach
Andy Eggerth said. "We've talked about his passion and work ethic, but what goes somewhat unnoticed is his lifestyle off the track. He eats healthy, sleeps properly, doesn't drink alcohol, and takes care of his body. This goes a long way toward his success on the track. I'm glad to see his success, but continue to hope that everything will line up perfectly at the championships for him so he can enjoy the ultimate satisfaction of his investment."
Mulder, finished third collegiate in the heptathlon scoring 5405 points at the New Mexico Classic. That score is currently 29th best in the NCAA this season and 17
th best in the United States. He won the pole vault setting a new school record with a vault of 4.90m (16'.0.75). That vault currently leads the A-Sun by .08m. He also jumped a career best 1.92m (6'3.5) in the high jump which is currently tied for fourth best in the A-Sun.
"Mulder has been having an outstanding season, but his accolades get overshadowed a little with the big things Bilal has been doing," Eggerth said. "Josh had a great weekend both with a lifetime best in the heptathlon as well as breaking the school record in the pole vault. He's worked hard and earned every bit of success he's been enjoying. Hopefully at the A-Sun Championship he'll move up to the top 16 heptathletes in the country so he will advance to the NCAA Championship."
The Owls will return to action on February 26-27 at the Atlantic Sun Indoor Track Championships in Winston Salem, North Carolina.
