KENNESAW, Ga. - The men's track and field team has received a trio of postseason awards after winning their fourth straight Atlantic Sun Indoor Championship over the weekend the conference announced Tuesday. Director of Track and Field
Andy Eggerth has been named A-Sun Coach of the Year for the fifth consecutive year while
Bilal Abdullah was named the most outstanding field athlete and
Terrell Singleton was named most outstanding track athlete for their performances at the conference championships.
"This award is not really my award." Eggerth said. "It goes to my athletes who've worked their tail off constantly and brought home the championship in convincing fashion. It also goes to my staff and administration, without whom I would be nothing."
Abdullah, the senior All-American, won the long jump, finished second in the triple jump and high jump, and tied for third in the pole vault at the indoor championships. Abdullah's best performance came in the long jump which he jumped 7.52m (24'8.25) more then a foot longer then the second place competitor. Abdullah collected 23 of his 33 points during the field events of the championships.
Bilal has been a beacon for this team, Assistant Head Coach
Duane Morris said. "His drive, determination, work-ethic, and faith have helped his teammates. He is very deserving of this honor and I'm glad to see his hard work pay off. It will be exciting to see what he does next week."
Singleton, finished second in the 60m hurdles and 200m-dash at the championships. He ran personal best time 8.00 seconds in the 60m hurdles final. He ran 22.50 in the 200 to win his heat and finish second overall.
"Terrell has been plagued by injury this season, so it was good to see him compete well at conference. We always tell our kids to save their best performance for conference, and Terrell did just that. He ran a pr in the hurdles and we know he will break into 8 seconds next year. We are glad the other asun coaches felt Terrell was worthy of this award," Morris said.
Abdullah will compete in the heptathlon and the long jump at the NCAA Indoor Championships (Mar.11-12) at the Birmingham Crossplex in Birmingham, Alabama. Tickets for the championships can be purchased
