WTrack: Bogavac and Kidane Collect Atlantic Sun Athlete of the Week Awards

Both posted strong performances at Emory Invitational

Atlantic Sun Release
KENNESAW, Ga. -
Kennesaw State's Marija Bogavac and Kidan Kidane swept the Atlantic Sun Outdoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week awards for their strong performances at the Emory Invitational the conference announced Wednesday.

"Marija and Kidan both had outstanding performances this weekend," Director of Track and Field and Cross Country Andy Eggerth said.

Bogavac, who was named A-Sun Field Athlete of the Week won the javelin throw with a school record breaking toss of 54.77m (179'8). That throw is currently third farthest in the NCAA, the farthest in the NCAA East Region and leads the conference by over 19m. That throw also broke her home country of Montenegro's record for longest throw, which she held, by over four meters.

"It can be difficult with foreign athletes that are already quite skilled because they often have trained at a high level with great specificity for their event. Marija has done a good job of adapting to a totally new style of training this year. I am relieved to see that it's working for her, and ecstatic for her to open up at what her goal distance was for the end of this season. I'm definitely excited to see how she continues to develop through the outdoor season," Eggerth said.

Kidane was named A-Sun Co-Track Athlete of the Week after winning the 10K at the Emory Invitational. She won in a personal best time of 35:13.68. She lapped the entire field twice during the race and won by nearly three minutes. Her time leads the NCAA by 11 seconds and the A-Sun by nearly six minutes.

"Coach (David) Poteet is doing a great job with Kidan as she just keeps getting better and better. It's fun to see hard work pay off and I look forward to what Kidan is able to accomplish through the rest of the outdoor season," Eggerth said.

The Owls will compete at the Yellow Jacket Invitational on March 25-26 in Atlanta, Georgia.
