KENNESAW, Ga. - Kennesaw State's
De'Von Johnson and
Dollitia Thomas swept the Atlantic Sun Outdoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week awards for their strong performances at the Leon Johnson NSU Invitational the conference announced Wednesday.
"Our team had a great showing this weekend which is shown by sweeping the ASUN weekly awards on the women's side," Director of Track and Field and Cross Country
Andy Eggerth said. This is a great lead into the main competitive portion of our season competing at Virginia, Drake relays, and the A-Sun Championships."
Johnson, who was named A-Sun Field Athlete of the Week won the long jump with a school record breaking jump of 5.92m (19'5.25). That jump currently leads the Atlantic Sun Conference and is 43
rd best in the NCAA East Region. She cleared her personal best in the high jump with a leap of 1.66m (5'5.25) to finish third in the event. That leap is third highest in the A-Sun this season.
"De'Von has been having a great season as well. Breaking the school record in the long jump that was just broken recently by
Morgan Campbell. She will do her first ever heptathlon this weekend which will be exciting to see how she performs," Eggerth said.
Thomas was named A-Sun Track Athlete of the Week after finishing second in the 400m. She crossed the line in a personal best time of 56.21. That time currently leads the A-Sun by a tenth of a season.
"Doll had an outstanding 400 m race this weekend which moves her to number one the conference. We are looking for big things as she continues to improve throughout the outdoor season."
The Owls will compete at the South Alabama Invitational April 14-16 in Mobile, Alabama.
