MACON, Ga. – The Kennesaw State softball team was well-represented on the 2016 Atlantic Sun Conference all-conference team that was announced on Tuesday (May 10).

Senior Kara Chambers and juniors Taylor Denton, Courtney Sutter and Logan Viers were named second team all-conference in a vote of league coaches.

Chambers was named to the team as an infielder, Denton was selected a utility player, Sutter at catcher and Viers as one of two pitchers named to the second team.

"I'm very proud to see four of our players recognized by the A-Sun coaches for their successes this year," head coach Tory Acheson said. "Of course, many postseason awards are stats-driven that I feel sometimes sells a player's true impact on the team short.

"Kara, Courtney, Logan and Taylor are all very deserving of all the accolades they receive," Acheson added. "They have all contributed a great deal this year at different times."

Chambers and Sutter are all-conference honorees for the second time in their careers, having earned second and first team accolades in 2014 and 2015, respectively, while Denton is a three-time second team selection.

Chambers has put together a solid senior campaign, batting .291 with 11 extra base hits, including a team-leading four triples that tie for second in the A-Sun Conference. She also has 24 stolen bases that rank second on the club and fourth on KSU's single-season stolen base list.

Denton has put together an outstanding season as she tops the Owls with a .323 average, 27 runs scored, 51 hits and a single-season school record 31 stolen bases. She also set the KSU career stolen base record with 61. The Owls' junior batted .448, scored 14 runs, collected 26 hits and stole 13 bases during A-Sun Conference play.

Sutter has been steady behind the plate all season, batting .280 while leading the team with nine doubles, eight home runs, 30 RBIs, .516 slugging percentage and .374 on-base percentage. She also is tied for ninth on KSU's career home runs list with 21.

Viers has put together one of the best seasons in the A-Sun Conference this year, registering a 12-9 record, 1.76 ERA and two saves while appearing in 37 games and starting 35. In 147 innings, she has allowed 37 earned runs and struck out 110 while limiting opposing hitters to a .231 average. Her 1.76 ERA ranks second in the A-Sun Conference.

The highlight of Viers' season came on February 28 when she tossed a perfect game against Alabama A&M.

"I love this team and proud to be their coach. I wouldn't trade any of them," Acheson said. "We are excited to be playing in the A-Sun tournament and looking forward to making everyone Owl Prowd!"

Kennesaw State opens A-Sun Conference tournament play on Wednesday (May 11) when it faces Lipscomb in a first-round game on the campus of Florida Gulf Coast in Fort Myers beginning at 5:30 p.m. (ET).
