NORMAN, Okla. – The Kennesaw State men's golf team's success goes beyond the course as it was one of 23 Division I programs to receive President's Special Recognition status by the Golf Coaches Association America (GCCA) for having a grade-point average of 3.5 or higher during the 2015-16 academic year. The organization announced the 2016 Academic Team Awards on Wednesday (July 27).
A total of 41 teams representing Divisions I, II, III, NAIA, NJCCA DI and NJCAA DII received President's Special Recognition, marking the highest number of teams honored since the Academic Team Awards program began in 2009.
To be eligible for GCAA All-Academic Team honors a college or university must submit the GPAs for each player on its official squad list for the academic year.
The recognition marks the sixth consecutive year that the Kennesaw State men's golf program has by recognized for registering at least a 3.0. GPA.
The Owls are coming off a 2015-16 season in which they captured the Atlantic Sun Conference title and advanced to an NCAA Division I regional for the sixth consecutive year.
Head coach
Bryant Odom and his Kennesaw State team will open the 2016-17 season on Sept. 9 when they travel to Dalton, Ga. to begin play at the Carpet Capital Collegiate.
