KENNESAW, Ga. – Kennesaw State track & field senior Hunter Arnold has been named the first-ever recipient of the Ellen Taber Scholarship. The award was presented by former KSU lecturer Jeff Cebulski on Friday, Aug. 26.

The scholarship is named after former KSU professor Ellen Taber, who suddenly passed away in 2014. Taber was deeply involved in the KSU Athletics program to monitor/tutor student-athletes for several years.

Arnold enters his final season in 2016-17 as one of four seniors on the men's team. He and the Owls will look to extend a streak of nine straight ASUN Conference Championships won by the men in indoor and outdoor track & field.

As a junior, Arnold competed in the pole vault 12 times during the indoor and outdoor season and collected 11 top-10 finishes. The Kennesaw native was the ASUN Indoor Champion in the pole vault with his season-best jump of 4.81m (15'9.25). He owns the school's record in the pole vault of 4.88m (16'0), and won the silver medal at the ASUN Outdoor Championships in the event.

He currently has a 3.75 GPA and will graduate in the spring of 2017 with a degree in sports management.

In order to receive the scholarship, a candidate must have begun his/her athletic career at KSU as a "walk on," but now designated by their head coach to be worthy of receiving athletic scholarship aid. Also eligible are non-scholarship students whose duties are instrumental in a capacity such as athletic training, tutoring, or managing.

The candidate must have a GPA of 3.0 or higher; or has demonstrated either strong and consistent achievement or a significant improvement in academic performance since becoming a student-athlete or team/program contributors, and be identified as a person of high character.
