Official Release

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Seven members of the 2017 Kennesaw State softball program earned National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-America Scholar-Athlete honors for the 2016-17 academic year, the organization announced on Tuesday (Oct.).
 
The group includes Katie Cannington, Taylor Denton, Abigail Green, Katey Lynch, Haylie Shope, Andrea Summey and Logan Viers. Each student-athlete recorded a grade-point average of 3.5 or higher, and enrolled at Kennesaw State for the full academic year.
 
"I am extremely proud of each individual for their commitment to academics and would like to congratulate them for being recognized as All-America Scholar-Athletes," head coach Pete D'Amour said. "They all have represented the University, Kennesaw State softball program and themselves in a first-class manner while contributing to our team success."
 
The individual accolades come a week after the softball program was one of 149 NCAA Division I teams to earn NFCA All-Academic Team Award recognition after the Owls recorded a 3.23 cumulative GPA.
 
In addition to their success academically, the Owls also produced on field as they posted a 40-20 overall record and advanced to the inaugural NISC Championship, marking program's first postseason appearance at the NCAA Division I level. KSU concluded the year ranked No. 46 in the final RPI rankings.
 
Kennesaw State is currently in the midst of its fall season and will host Brewton-Parker in a doubleheader Friday (Oct. 13) at Bailey Park beginning at 4 p.m.
