KENNESAW – Kennesaw State junior QB
Chandler Burks has been named Big South Conference Offensive Player of the Week, the conference office announced Monday afternoon.
Burks, a Douglasville, Ga., native, racked up a game-high 100 rushing yards on 22 carries and two touchdowns, including lowering his right shoulder with 16 seconds remaining to propel Kennesaw State past North Greenville, 38-34. Burks completed 5-of-10 passes for 111 yards and one touchdown, totaling 211 all-purpose yards and three scores on the afternoon.
He got the scoring started for KSU with a one-yard touchdown rush on KSU's first offensive possession to even the score at 7-7, before finding junior RB
Trey Chivers for 26 yards in the air to give the Owls a 21-7 advantage in the second quarter. With the game in the balance on a third-and-goal, Burks' quarterback keeper gave the Owls a four-point advantage with 16 seconds left to help secure the victory.
The Owls (3-1) returns to the gridiron after winning three straight –undefeated at home—and puts its winning streak on the line welcoming non-conference foe Texas Southern to The Nest for the first meeting all-time between the programs.
