Opening Tee
The Kennesaw State men's golf team returns to action this week when it hosts the 11-team Pinetree Intercollegiate at nearby Pinetree Country Club in Kennesaw.
 
Due to forcasted inclement weather, play has been reduced 36 holes with the tournament opening with 1 p.m. shotgun start on Monday. Play will conclude with the final 18 holes on Tuesday.
 
The Pinetree Intercollegiate marks the fourth of five fall tournaments for the Owls. KSU previously competed in the Carpet Capital Collegiate (11th of 15), Shoal Creek Invitational (8th of 12) and FAMC Intercollegiate (T3rd of 12). The fall season concludes with Kennesaw State traveling to Mobile, Ala. for the Steelwood Intercollegiate beginning Saturday (Oct. 28).
 
The Field
The 11-team field for the Pinetree Intercollegiate includes Belmont, Florida Gulf Coast, Gonzaga, Jacksonville State, Kennesaw State, Mercer, Nicholls State, Northern Illinois, Southern Illinois, Western Kentucky and Wisconsin. Kennesaw State enters the tournament as the field's highest ranked team, garnering a No. 48 ranking by Golfstat.

Pinetree Country Club
Pinetree Country Club is a par 72, 7,108-yard golf course and has been host to numerous collegiate and amateur tournaments, including the 2013 Georgia State Amateur Championship won by former Kennesaw State Owl Jimmy Beck.

"Everyone on the team is excited about the Pinetree Intercollegiate and defending our title from a year ago," head coach Bryant Odom said. "Pinetree Country Club is in wonderful condition and provides a tremendous challenge. We are fortunate to have such a great venue as our home course and always look forward to hosting this event."

The Owls have had great success at the Pinetree Intercollegiate since its inception in 2012. Kennesaw State has captured team titles in 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2016. KSU enters this year's tournament as the defending champion after recording a 13-shot victory over Iowa State in 2016. The Owls posted a 2-under 862 total and were led by freshman Connor Coffee and senior Christopher Guglielmo, who tied for second at 3-under par 213. KSU's Jimmy Beck (2012) and Fredrik Nilehn (2014) have claimed medalist honors.
 
Last Time Out
Kennesaw State is coming off its best performance of the fall after tying host Middle Tennessee for third place at the FAMC Intercollegiate that concluded Oct. 10 at The Grove Club in College Grove, Tenn. The Owls registered a 10-over par 874 total to finish 22 shots behind Georgia Tech (852, -12), which captured the team title to finish 16 shots ahead of Ole Miss. For the third consecutive tournament, junior Jake Fendt led Kennesaw State, tying for seventh at 1-under par 215, six shots back of Braden Thornberry of Ole Miss, who claimed medalist honors with a 7-under par 209 total.

Junior Jake Fendt has been Kennesaw State's top player through three tournaments this season as he has posted a 71.44 scoring average. He has recorded par or better scores in eight of nine rounds, including five at under par. Fendt has registered three top 20 showings, including two top 10s. The Suwanee, Ga. native is coming off his best performance of the fall after tying for seventh at the FAMC Intercollegiate with a 1-under par 215 score.

The Kennesaw State men's golf program has established itself at the national level in recent years as it has made seven consecutive NCAA Regional appearances and advanced to the NCAA Championships on three occasions, including last season. The Owls finished the 2016-17 season ranked No. 47 by Golfstat and No. 37 by Golfweek.
 
Summer Highlights
Redshirt junior Wyatt Larkin made a successful return to competitive play after missing nine months due to a back injury. In his first competitive action, Larkin captured individual medalist honors at the Yamaha Atlanta Open after shooting rounds 68-71 for a 5-under par 139 score and record a two-shot victory. He also tied for low amateur at the Georgia Open, tying for fifth, and tied 17th at Porter Cup at Nigara Falls Country Club in Lewiston, N.Y.
 
Sophomore Connor Coffee continued the momentum from a strong freshman campaign by finishing second at the Georgia Amateur Championship at West Lake Country Club in Augusta. Posting four rounds in the 60s, Coffee shot rounds of 69-69-65-66 for a 5-under 269 and finished one shot out of first.
 
The 2017-18 Roster
Third-year head coach Bryant Odom welcomes back a veteran team in 2017-18 that includes three of the five players who helped the Owls claim the 2017 ASUN Conference championship and advance to the NCAA Championships. The KSU roster includes two seniors (Buster  Bruton and Paul Doig), four juniors (Wyatt Larkin, Jake Fendt, Adam Morris, Pablo Rodriguez-Tabernero Torres, sophomore Connor Coffee and two freshmen (Brady Keran and Justin Kim).
 
2016-17 Season in Review
Kennesaw State had a solid 2016-17 campaign, posting 12 top 10 finishes and 10 top five showings, including three tournament wins. KSU captured the Pinetree Intercollegiate, Steelwood Collegiate Invitational and ASUN Conference Championships.
 
Individually, sophomore Jake Fendt led the Owls with a 72.32 scoring average, had six top 20 finishes, four top 10 showings, and claimed individual medalist honors at the Southern Intercollegiate.
 
2016-17 Season Honors
Connor Coffee earned ASUN Conference Co-Freshman of the Year honors, while seniors Teremoana Beaucousin and Christopher Guglielmo, and sophomore Jake Fendt were named to the all-conference team.
 
Next Up
The Owls conclude their fall tournament schedule this weekend at the Steelwood Collegiate Invitational in Mobile, Ala. Pay opens with 36 holes on Saturday (Oct. 28) and concludes with final-round play on Sunday (Oct. 29). The tournament will be held at Steelwood Country Club.
