Meet 7: Kennesaw State at NCAA Cross Country South Region Championships

Race Preview
Six members of the Kennesaw State cross country teams will head to Tuscaloosa, Alabama to run in the NCAA Cross Country South Regionals at the Harry Pritchett Running Course on Friday, November 10.
 
The women will run a 6-kilometer race beginning at 10 a.m. ET, and the men will run a 10-kilometer race beginning at 11 a.m. ET. A total of 32 men's with individuals from four more teams and 36 women's teams along with individuals from seven schools are slated to compete in this year's South Region Championships. The top two teams in each race will automatically qualify for the NCAA Championships, while the remaining teams wait for the announcement of the at-large selections made by the NCAA Division I Cross Country Subcommittee. Additionally, a total of 38 individuals not on an advancing team will also move on to the national meet for each gender, with 36 of those automatically qualifying by being one of the top four finishers in the region not on an advancing team, while two others will be at-large selections.
 
 Logan Poteet, Chase Kennedy and Ben Patterson will represent the Kennesaw State men in the. competition. Poteet has been the Owls top finisher in four meets this season. He has four top 5 finishes in six meets this season. Poteet posted his career-best 8k time of 24:34.9 at the ASUN Championships finishing fifth. Patterson was the Owls top finisher at three meets this season. He finished second at the Stan Sims Invitational and ran a career-best 8k time of 25:53.8 at the ASUN Championships. Kennedy improved as the season went along posting three top 20 finishes including a 17th place finish in a career-best time of 25:40.8 at the ASUN Championships. Kennedy and Patterson were named to the ASUN All-Freshmen Team.
  
Caitlyn Farrell, Saidah Grant, and Katie Meyer will represent the Owls in the women's 6k race. Farrell was the Owls top finisher in all six meets this season. Grant and Meyer improved as the year went on. Grant and Meyer both posted career-best times and finishes at the Foothills Invitational.
 
Owls Post Strong Performances at ASUN Championships
The Kennesaw State cross country competed in the ASUN Cross Country Championships on Saturday, October 28 at Sam Smith Park. The men's team finished third, while the women collected a fourth-place finish.
 
Notes
- Logan Poteet is the first Owl male to earn First Team All-Conference honors since Daniel Garcia in 2014.
- Poteet's time of 24:34.9 is the fastest time ever recorded by an Owl in the 8K at the ASUN Championships.
- All five men posted their career-best 8k times at the ASUN Championships.
- Chase Kennedy and Ben Patterson both earned ASUN All-Freshmen Team honors. They are the first two Owls to land on the team since Simone Colombini did it back in 2015.
- Caitlyn Farrell earned ASUN Second Team All-Conference honors with her 14th-place finish.
- Bonnie McKinnon, Katie Meyer, and Reagan Poteet recorded their career-best times in the 5k at the meet.
- Senior Jordan Hand wrapped up his KSU cross country career at the ASUN Championships. He competed in 22 meets with three top 32 finishes in 2017. "We will miss Jordan Hand, who just completed his last season with a near personal best race at conference," head coach David Poteet said. "His leadership and great work ethic are already missed."
 
Next Up
The Owls will transition and begin preparing for the indoor track season which begins on Saturday, January 13th at a meet hosted by Purdue.
