KENNESAW, Ga. – The power outage that took place at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport on Sunday prevented the Kennesaw State women's basketball from making its scheduled flight to Puerto Rico, and as a result, the Owls will not be competing in the Puerto Rico Classic that was scheduled for Dec. 18-20 in San Juan.
Â
Kennesaw State was slated to open against Puerto Rico-Bayamon on Monday before facing Miami on Tuesday and concluding tournament action versus Southern Illinois on Wednesday.
Â
"It was an unfortunate set of circumstances that we encountered at the airport and are disappointed that we are not able to travel to San Juan and compete in the Puerto Rico Classic," head coach
Agnus Berenato said. "After looking into flights from several different airports throughout the Southeast, we were just not able to secure any flights.
Â
"We're going to chalk this up as a learning experience. We plan to practice the next three days, have meals together and are planning to do community outreach where we bake meals for local families," Berenato added. "We will have team bonding activities before the kids begin travel home for Christmas."
Â
The Owls will practice at the KSU Convocation Center Monday afternoon, Tuesday and Wednesday.Â
Â
Kennesaw State returns to action on Jan. 3 when it plays at Savannah State. Tip-off is 7 p.m. (ET).
