KENNESAW, Ga. – The Kennesaw State women's soccer team continued to make strides in 2017 under second-year head coach Benji Walton.

Featuring a roster that included 13 true freshmen and one redshirt freshman, the Owls posted an 8-7-4 record and advanced to the semifinals of the ASUN Conference Championship for the second year in a row.

The season was highlighted by a 1-0 victory over perennial Southern Conference contender Samford and included late-October wins at Lipscomb in the regular-season finale and winning a penalty-kick shootout versus North Florida in the quarterfinals of the ASUN Championship.

Individually, senior defender Abby Roth and redshirt-freshman Tiffany Sornpao had standout seasons for the Owls. Roth collected numerous honors, including United Soccer Coaches (USC) Second Team All-Southeast Region, selection to the USC NCAA Division I Women's Scholar All-South Region First Team, first team ASUN All-Conference and ASUN All-Academic Team. She was also twice named the conference's Defensive Player of the Week.

Sornpao appeared in 14 matches, posted a 5-6-3 record, 1.06 goals-against average and seven shutouts. She was a unanimous selection to the ASUN Conference All-Freshman Team and earned conference Defender of the Week honors.

Roth and Sornpao were also named to the ASUN Championship All-Tournament team.
