USTFCCCA Release

NEW ORLEANS, La. –
Kennesaw State's women's cross country teams earned U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Division I All-Academic Team honors, the association announced Thursday (Feb.9).

The women's team finished with a combined 3.24 GPA and finished 26th overall at the 2016 NCAA South Regionals.

To qualify for the All-Academic award, the team must have compiled a cumulative grade point average of 3.00 as a team and have participated in a NCAA Regional Cross Country meet in the previous season.

The women's team this season consisted of one senior, two sophomores and six freshman competed in six meets and took home a fourth place finish at the ASUN Championships under second-year head coach David Poteet.

"This is a big part of what it's all about," director of track and field and cross country Andy Eggerth said. "Sure we want to win, but the point of going to college is to prepare you for and help you get a great career.  Academic excellence is obviously a big part of that, so this honor is a good indication that we're keeping the big picture of the holistic student-athlete in mind and specifically speaks to the character of our student-athletes.  It goes without saying that I'm very proud of them!
