LAX: Q&A With Head Coach Laura Maness

2/24/2017 11:17:00 AM

KENNESAW, Ga. – As the Kennesaw State women's lacrosse team is set to play their first home game of the 2017 season, head coach Laura Maness sat down with KSUOwls.com to talk about the season.

After playing the first game on the road, how beneficial will it be for the team to play five straight games in Fifth Third Bank Stadium?
A: We look forward to playing at Fifth Third Bank Stadium in front of our fans. I believe it will be a huge advantage to us not having to divert any of our attention to team travel and missed class time; it allows us to focus on us, how we can become stronger and be better prepared to play against Marquette.

What did you learn from playing in that first game against Vanderbilt?
A: Vanderbilt played very aggressively and up tempo. We need to keep better composure and take better advantage of the other team's fouls and yellow cards.

With this being your first season as head coach at Kennesaw State, how have the returners stepped up and shown leadership?
A: The upperclassmen are hungry to see results, they want to win and be more successful than ever before. We keep pushing them in practice and in conditioning trying to raise the bar each day, I think the focus is good- we need to channel the energy, focus, and determination I see at practice into our efforts on game day.

What are the keys for this team to be successful?
A: The keys for this team to be successful is to stay the course and play together. Our offense, defense, and goal tending needs to all be playing to the best of our ability to pull the wins out. We need to get our hands dirty and play with more grit. The hustle plays like ground balls are going to make the difference and give us those extra opportunities we need.
