KENNESAW, Ga. – Three players were honored by the ASUN with post-season awards, the conference office announced on Sunday, February 26.
Kendrick Ray became the first Kennesaw State men's basketball player ever to be named ASUN First Team All-Conference. The redshirt senior from Middletown, N.Y. finished second in the ASUN averaging 20.9 points per game scoring over 30 points four times and over 20 points 17 times. He was named ASUN Player of the Week twice this season. Last game, he became just the third Kennesaw State player ever to score over 600 points in a single season.
"I'm very happy for Kendrick," head coach
Al Skinner said. "It's something he's worked very hard for all year long. One of the most challenging situations for a player is when people expect you to be good and prepare for you night in and night out and still have the type of year that he's had. Congratulations to him. This is an honor well deserved."
Aubrey Williams was named ASUN Second Team All-Conference after being the only player to average a double-double with 13.3 points per game and 11.0 rebounds per game. He is fourth in the country with 19 double-doubles this season and is also fourth in the country in total rebounds with 330. He led the team in blocks and was second on the team in steals.
"Aubrey probably has made the most strides going from sixth man to starting center and one of the most consistent players in the league," Skinner said. "To average a double-double is quite an accomplishment. As a captain, he also demonstrated great leadership with his consistency on the court and I'm extremely happy for his success."
James Scott was named to the All-Freshmen Team after averaging 9.2 points per game in 16 minutes of action. He scored in double figures in eight games this season with five of those coming in conference play. Against Stetson, Scott got his first career start and stepped up with 33 points to help lead the team to a victory. The 33 points was the most scored by a freshman this season in the ASUN. Scott is the fifth freshmen at Kennesaw State to make the All-Freshmen Team.
"Making the All-Freshmen Team for James is quite an accomplishment considering the inconsistency of his minutes," Skinner said. "He obviously displayed the abilities to be one of the better players in this league, and I'm very happy for him and what the future holds for him."
Kennesaw State finished the regular season 13-17 and 7-7 in the ASUN. They are the five seed heading into the ASUN Quarterfinals at USC Upstate on Monday, February 27 at 7 p.m.
