KENNESAW, Ga. – Kennesaw State freshman
Carlotta Gianolla was honored for last week's impressive performance against Jacksonville and Lipscomb by being named the ASUN Conference Women's Basketball Co-Newcomer of the Week, the conference announced on Monday (Feb. 27). It marks the third time this year she has been honored.
Gianolla shared the recognition with Stetson junior Brittney Chambers.
The Owls' rookie averaged 24.5 points, 10.5 rebounds, and shot 59.5 percent (22-for-37) from the field, while averaging 27 minutes a contest. She recorded back-to-back 20-plus point games for the first time.
Gianolla opened the week in record-breaking fashion as she scored a KSU Division I freshman record 29 points, while shooting 42.9 percent (13-for-22) from the field versus Jacksonville on Monday (Feb. 20). Her 13 made field goals established a KSU Division I era record. She also added eight rebounds.
The Marcon, Italy native concluded the regular season with 20 points and 13 rebounds while notching her sixth double-double of the season in just 23 minutes of action against Lipscomb on Saturday (Feb. 25). She connected on 9 of 15 field goal attempts (60.0 percent).
Gianolla concluded the regular season averaging 12.0 points and 6.5 rebounds a game, and her points-per game average leads all ASUN Conference freshmen.
Kennesaw State is next in action on Friday (March 3) when it hosts NJIT in the quarterfinals of the ASUN Women's Basketball Championship at the KSU Convocation Center. Tip-off is 7 p.m.
