SCHEDULE
KENNESAW, Ga. – The Kennesaw State women's lacrosse team begins its 2017 season this Saturday, February 11 at Vanderbilt for a 2 p.m. start.
It's the fifth season for the program and the first for new head coach
Laura Maness. She takes over the helm after her five year tenure as the winningest coach in Detroit Mercy history and leading them to four straight Atlantic Sun Championship games.
"We're excited for the season to begin and hopeful that this season will bring a renewed sense of passion, energy and competitiveness amongst our student-athletes, and ultimately, a new brand of Kennesaw State lacrosse," Maness said.
Joining Maness on her coaching staff are
Devon Schneider and
Shannon Nee. Both of them played collegiately with Schneider playing at the University of Florida and Nee playing at the University of Connecticut.
KSU has 17 games in the regular season with 11 being played at home in Fifth Third Bank Stadium. Kennesaw State has its first home game on Tuesday, February 28 against Marquette. Later in the season, the Owls will host preseason No. 8 Notre Dame on April 6.
Every home game will be broadcasted online either on ESPN3 or ASUN TV. The four home games on ESPN3 are Mercer, Notre Dame, Delaware State and Howard.
The Owls return 19 players from a season ago while adding 12 newcomers to the roster. Among the 19 are four-year captain
Taylor McGhee,
Sydney Farwick and
Connor Zophy.
Farwick was second on the team with 31 points a season ago with 17 goals and 14 assists. She was named Second Team All-Atlantic Sun for the third year in a row. In just her sophomore season, Zophy finished the season scoring 19 goals with 11 assists.
Among the 12 newcomers,
Maura Palandro and
Izzy Palermo were named to the Preseason ASUN Watchlist for incoming players.
The ASUN welcomes two new teams to the league this year in Coastal Carolina and Delaware State giving the league 11 teams. The top six will make the ASUN Tournament hosted at Jacksonville at the end of the season.
A season ago, Kennesaw State grabbed the sixth spot in the conference tournament with a 3-5 record in the ASUN. The team went 5-12 overall. The Owls were picked to finish in seventh in the ASUN Preseason Coach's Poll for this season.

Fifth Third Bank Stadium, the signature athletics landmark on the Kennesaw State University campus, is a world-class facility that has been recognized as one of the premier multi-use outdoor athletics venues in the country. In the fall of 2015, it become the official home of Owls football team and is home to Owls soccer and lacrosse as well.
