WTRK: Three Owls Earn ASUN All-Academic Honors

KENNESAW, Ga.Jordan Gray, Laura-Maria Oja and Kidan Kidane of the Kennesaw State women's track and field teams have been named to the ASUN Indoor Academic All-Conference team the conference announced Tuesday.
 
"These individuals are choice student-athletes of the ASUN Conference," Director of Track and Field and Cross Country Andy Eggerth said.  "In addition to the time and effort required to be All-Conference performers athletically, they are also elite performers in the classroom.  It's great for them to receive this honor and I'm really proud of them, but being well rounded is a reward in itself as these student-athletes are the cream of the crop to be hired for the best positions with the best organizations." 
 
 Gray has a 3.59 GPA majoring in communications. Gray, won the pentathlon at the ASUN Championships with a new school and conference record of 4019 points. In the pentathlon field events, Gray won the shot put with a school and conference record toss of 13.57m (44'6.5) and the long jump with a leap of 5.74m (18'10). She finished second in the pentathlon high jump after clearing 1.65m (5'5). In the open events, Gray scored in each of the four events she competed. She would reach the medal stand in the long jump with a leap of 5.79m (19'0) to earn the silver medal and in the high jump clearing 1.70m (5'7) to take home the bronze medal. She also collected points for the Owls with a finishing fourth in the pole vault and fifth in the shot put. Her 30 points scored at the meet also earned her ASUN Most Valuable Performer and Most Outstanding Field Performer honors. She competed in all six indoor meets during the season including the Harvard Crimson Elite where she jumped a conference-best mark of 5.93m (19'5.5).
 
Oja holds a 3.78 GPA in biochemistry. At the ASUN Championships, Oja took home a silver medal in the 60m hurdles in a time of 8.52 seconds. Her time of 8.45 seconds in the 60m hurdle prelims was second-fastest in school history. The Paemu, Estonia native would also score points for the Owls finishing fourth in the 60m-dash (7.62 seconds), and fifth in the 200m-dash (25.17). The senior competed in four meets in her final indoor season. She would set the new school record in the 55m hurdles with a time of 7.94 seconds at the Mountaineer Open Invite. This is Oja's second career appearance on the ASUN Indoor Academic All-Conference team.
 
Kidane owns a 3.59 GPA in exercise science. Kidane collected a pair of silver medals in the one-mile run (4:59.09) and the 3K (10:02.68). She competed in five meets in her final indoor track season. The senior opened the season finishing third in the 3k in 10:20.42 at the ETSU Invitational. She won the one-mile run at the Mountaineer Open Invite after finishing with a time of 5:07.90. The Addis Ababa, Ethiopia native would set the new school record in the one-mile run after she posted a time of 4:54.05 at the Harvard Crimson Elite. This is Kidane's second career appearance on the ASUN Indoor Academic All-Conference team.
