KENNESAW, Ga. -- Kennesaw State men's tennis sophomore Fermin Calvo Barcelo was named the ASUN Conference Player of the Week after helping the Owls to three straight wins last week.

Calvo Barcelo was an unbeaten 5-0 on the week (3-0 in singles; 2-0 in doubles) as the Owls recorded team victories over Detroit, Alabama A&M, and Presbyterian. The team has won four consecutive matches, and six of its last seven, to improve to 7-5 overall.

"Fermin is really starting to find his groove," said Director of Tennis Eduardo Rincon. "I had high expectations for him when he came, and he's starting to get more comfortable and confident. We're playing well as a team and we need to keep that going as we get into conference play."

The sophomore from Argentina, who transferred to KSU from the University of Miami this season, did not drop a set in singles play last week. Two of his singles victories clinched the Owls' overall team win.

He has won four straight singles matches, and six of his last seven this spring, to improve to 6-6 in singles play. In doubles, Calvo Barcelo has won three straight, and four of his last five, to improve to 4-2.

The Owls are back in action Saturday night, hosting Texas Rio Grande Valley at the Betty Siegel Courts. First serve is set for 5 p.m. and admission is free.
