EATONTON, Ga. – On a day ideal for low scores, senior Christopher Guglielmo took advantage of the great conditions to shoot a 6-under par 66 to lead the Kennesaw State men's golf team during Sunday's opening round of the Linger Longer Invitational at the par-72, 7,073-yard Great Waters Golf Club at Lake Oconee.

Guglielmo recorded seven birdies on his round to claim a share of the lead and help the No. 43 Owls to a tie for fifth in a field that includes six teams ranked in Golfstat's top 50. The KSU senior is tied with Troy's Luke Moser and Kyle Mueller of Michigan.

Fourth-ranked Baylor shot a 14-under par score of 274 and holds a six-shot advantage over Troy, UNCG and No. 37 Michigan. The Owls, who carded a 5-under par 283, are tied with No. 8 Virginia and Augusta, three shots out of second place.

"Shooting 283 as a team is a pretty solid opening round and leaves us in good position to move up the leaderboard the next couple of days," head coach Bryant Odom said. "It's great to have a low round from Chris and steady rounds by Jake (Fendt), Pablo (Rodriguez-Tabernero Torres) and Teremoana (Beaucousin).

"Being only three shots out of second place puts in good position to make a charge tomorrow if we can keep our momentum throughout the round," Odom added. "We need to do a better job of avoiding the big numbers so we can allow ourselves the opportunity to put up a good team score and rise up the leaderboard."

Beaucousin and Torres produced first-round scores of even-par 72, while Connor Coffee turned in a 1-over par 73. Freshman Connor Coffee opened with a 6-over par 68.

"The weather is looking great for tomorrow and the Great Waters course is in its usual great condition and we're excited for the next two rounds," Odom said.

The second round is scheduled for Monday beginning at 8:30 a.m. Kennesaw State will be grouped with Michigan and Virginia and have a first tee time of 9:20 a.m. (ET). All the action can be followed live at www.golfstatresults.com.
