KENNESAW, Ga. – In front of 2,259 at Fifth Third Bank Stadium, the Kennesaw State Defense (Black) pulled out a dramatic 53-40 victory over the Offense (Gold) on Friday night in the Owls' third annual Spring Game.

Coming down to the wire in the final minutes, senior DB Duronte Carter picked off a pass at Black's 23-yard line to clinch the win. The victory by the Defense secures them dinner on Monday night that consists of fried chicken and ribs, while the Offense will be relegated to hot dogs, beans and water on Monday.

The game was scored using a modified point system that awarded points to both the offense (for touchdowns, field goals, extra points, third and fourth down conversions, and explosive plays) and the defense (for turnovers, touchdowns, Red Zone stops and third and fourth-down stops).

"I thought it was a great crowd tonight and I wanted to thank our fans for coming out to support us," said head coach Brian Bohannon. "The defense won tonight because they made less mistakes than the offense did. We got some quality reps tonight out of some young guys and saw some improvements over the night."

Redshirt freshman LB Bryson Armstrong led the defense with 11 tackles (10 solo) and one tackle for loss, while senior DL Justin Marcus tallied eight tackles and one for loss. Senior LB Izzy Sam and junior DB Akebren Ralls each had six stops.

Black held Gold to 99 yards in the fourth quarter and forced one turnover as the Defense overcome a 36-35 deficit entering the final quarter.

Offensively, sophomore QB Daniel David finished 9-of-15 passing for a team-high 152 yards and a touchdown. Starting QB Chandler Burks, was limited to 20 plays and was 5-for-8 passing for 32 yards. He scored the game's first touchdown on a nine-yard run.

Sophomore WR Dorian Miles finished with 69 yards in the air on three catches, while sophomore RB Bronson Rechsteiner, who played last season as a linebacker, led the rushing attack with a team-high 74 yards on 14 carries.

"It was a lot of fun to switch to offense and running back," said Rechsteiner. "I'm loving the process. Today was really the first test under the lights. Things can change. Sometimes you may break a run and sometimes you might not. I thought we made great progress tonight and we pushed ourselves."

The Gold Team's other touchdown was a 20-yard strike from David to junior WR Xavier Harper. Jordan Genovese booted a 28-yard field goal.
